Venice Maki is a singer/songwriter who delivers stirring songs of love, loss and the human condition in a way that recalls the days of musicians who took chances. Venice is a self taught guitarist and piano player who sings with the passion of his experiences.
Born in Zaire, a 3rd world country in Africa, Venice's family relocated to Bethesda Maryland to avoid the harshness of then Dictator, Mobutu. When he was 17, he had a life changing moment. Blessed by having two talents, Venice had to choose between becoming a world-class soccer player or embracing a life with music.
He chose music.
Venice moved to Los Angeles to start the journey of learning the craft of songwriting. Many of these songs have made their way onto Venice's previous albums titled "Surviving The Fall" released in 1999, "Which Way Is Out?" from 2006, and "Suffocate" from 2008. The "Suffocate" album is mainly comprised of acoustic songs for a more up close and personal experience.
Venice's music has been placed on films such as "Behind The Mask: The Rise Of Leslie Vernon" as well as TV shows and commercials. Most currently, Venice's song "Waiting For The Wave" from the newest album "ReVerie" will be placed on the hit tv show "The Cleaner" starring Benjamin Bratt.
Besides the appearances of his music on screen, Venice has shared stages with many major artists including The Calling, Collective Soul, Goo Goo Dolls, Beth Hart, Mozella, Colin Hay, Shawn Mullins, Chris Christensen, Wicked Wisdom, Eddie Money, Kenny Loggins, Juliet Lewis, just to name a few.
Venice Maki will be releasing his 4th album "ReVerie" on September 15th, 2009. Co-producing this new record with his long time collaborator, Art Pacheco. "ReVerie" means "DayDream" in french and you will most certainly have a chance to escape from reality, for a moment, as the album will take you on a pleasantly "unusual" musical journey.
