Singers - If you follow my posts, you have heard me talk about "creating value in the market". What does that mean? It means that you are worth X amount of dollars to a talent buyer. How do you do that? By building your fan base in a given area and gradually expanding that fan base to cover more and more locations as time passes. The process normally starts with a very local following and then expands from there. Most bands and singers rely on a "quality show" and "word of mouth" to accomplish these goals, but smart entertainers are using the internet - social media sites, their own personal websites and blogs to quickly spread the word about their careers, where they will be performing, and notable events in their lives and careers. They are also creating new opportunities for places to play by spending time on the phones, making appointments for in-person meetings and via email contacting "talent buyers" (people who book paying gigs). They also create "press releases" and submit those to newspapers, radio and TV stations and magazines when they have something newsworthy to say. These are just a few of the things that will create value for you in a market. Then when you want to open a show for a major act, you offer value to the show promoter since your fan base generates extra ticket sales for that promoter. Think about it.
