Hi!
Im very excited about this new album, especially since my last full-length album was on something called vinyl!
I've had a great career, stretching all the way back to the '70's, writing songs for Cher, Three Dog Night, John Travolta, Olivia Newton-John, Steppenwolf. I had big hits with Helen Reddy (Angie Baby), The Righteous Brothers (Rock'n'Roll Heaven), and myself as an artist (Undercover Angel)!
But since the early 80s, my career has largely focused on writing & co-writing for others, from Japanese superstar Tatsuro Yamashita, to Jim Hensons Muppet Babies, to Disney, to National Geographics Childrens Videos. Very rewarding projects, but man, time flies.
This new project got its start about two years ago at my friend Denny Martins studio in Nashville, where I would often visit to produce demos of my new material and hire singers to put their voices on the tracks.
For my own satisfaction, and as a guide for the studio singers, I would sometimes take a shot at doing my own vocal version of the song on another track.
Im not a country singer, and my songs lean toward the pop vein. Denny, whos a musician/engineer/songwriter himself, encouraged me to start thinking about using some of the tracks as a basis for my own CD release. And it wasnt long before my creative juices started flowing, writing & recording songs for an artist named Alan ODay!
More and more legacy artists are re-emerging with new successful albums, and with the current climate more open to indie contributions, the timing feels perfect for this writer/performer to once again toss my hat in the ring.
These fourteen songs move around from funk to retro to spiritual. If you listen carefully, youll hear how much fun we were having creating this CD. I think its the most me of any album of my career, and I cant wait for you to hear it!
If you wish to purchase physical CDs, on September 15th they will be available through alanoday.com, as well as other outlets. On or after the 15th, please check out myspace.com/alanoday, where audio clips and other info will be also posted. And within the next few weeks, the title song will have its own video on YouTube, produced with the guys here at myrecordlabel!
I hope my creations make you dance, laugh, and maybe shed a tear. I hope this album goes Platinum! But fortunately, no matter the degree of success, Im already blissed out just to have completed it!
Blessings,
Alan ODay
